Loft insulation standards have improved lately with suggested minimum quilt depth for lofts and attics of 250mm (10"). If you have 150mm (6") or less, you should seriously consider improving the insulation in line with current standards.
It is very important that when loft / attic insulation is improved, thus preventing heat loss from your home, the roof space becomes colder so pipes and tanks need to be protected against frost. This is carried out as part of the roof insulation exercise.
